From modest beginnings as a one-plane airline that first flew in 2000, Lion Air has navigated its way through the turbulence in the wake of the financial crisis that blew through the region in 1997 to emerge as Indonesia’s leading budget airline carrier. Today, we operate 37 planes flying to not only all of Indonesia’s major cities and wondrous tourist destinations, but to Singapore, Penang and Kuala Lumpur as well. And we’re just taking off. The financial crisis that hit Asia in 1997 affected many industrial sectors instantaneously, resulting in a flow-on affect on the regional airline industry that can only be described as catastrophic. Industry players witnessed a severe decline in business travel, while tourists downgraded to lower-class seats, postponed their trips or simply cancelled them. With the prevailing conditions so adverse and the airline industry operating on extremely tight margins to begin with, some considered launching a new airline foolhardy in the extreme. We didn’t think so then and obviously we don’t think so now. Lion Air embraced the situation, using the circumstances in our favor to enhance our competitive advantage resulting in lower-priced fares and superior service and on-time performance. In 2005, Lion Air had the biggest market share in Indonesia, a vast, resource-rich archipelago that has shaken free of the fallout of the economic crisis and recently elected a new President who is leading the nation into the new millennium. With future forecasts predicting blue skies ahead and a vast middle to upper-class having more spending power, Lion Air promises to utilize our ingenuity and innovation to expand our position among our target market, not only in Indonesia but throughout the Asia-Pacific region. We. hope you enjoy the ride. OUR FLEET Firstly, Lion Air operated the 42D Yak aircraft and B737-200. In 2001 Lion Air operated A310-300. To accommodate the high demand of air transportation, Lion Air chose MD-80 series aircraft, which is very efficient and also convenience with 165 passenger capacity Currently, Lion Air has a fleet of 46 aircrafts, consisting of 16 units MD 80-series, 5 units MD 90-series, 10 units B737-400, 2 units B737-300, 3 feeder aircrafts of Dash 8 and 10 units of B737-900ER. From year 2007 until 2012, 144 aircrafts of B737-900ER will be delivered from the total 178 aircraft ordered to strengthen Lion Air fleets. B737-900ER is the newest member of Next Generation B737 family with the most advanced single aisle commercial airplane in the world. B737-900ER will enable Lion Air to offer more non stop flight at low fares to more destinations throughout Indonesia and beyond. Maintenance Team In airlines industry, safety is put at the highest priority. Thus, we have a solid engineering team to maintain our fleet which is controlled by the Department of Transportation Indonesia, in particular the DSKU (Direktorat Sertifikasi Kelaikan Udara). |
